A closer look at Pumpkin Hot-Air Balloon

One big hot-air balloon shaped like a ribbed pumpkin floats in the middle of the page, with a thick curly stem and a small spiral tendril on top. Six curved rib lines split the balloon into seven tall stripes. Under it a scalloped skirt leads to five ropes, a small woven ring, then two more ropes down to one empty woven basket. A crescent moon sits at the top left, a star and a little sparkle at the top right, three puffy clouds drift around the balloon, and a strip of grass runs along the bottom. There are no faces and no people, so it is a calm, not-scary Halloween or fall sheet.

The balloon, its seven stripes, the stem, the moon and the clouds are all big shapes that suit chunky crayons. Most of the small areas are the woven bricks of the basket and the gaps between the grass blades along the bottom; the grass can be coloured as one green band or left white. The moon is drawn as a circle with a crescent line inside, so it has two parts. The ropes are the thinnest lines on the page.

Colour the seven balloon stripes in two alternating oranges, or make it a rainbow pumpkin. Give the stem and tendril green or brown, the ring and basket a warm brown, and the moon and stars yellow. Leave the clouds white or pale grey, colour the night sky dark blue or purple around them, and make the grass green.
