A closer look at Princess with Magical Unicorn

A princess in a long gown stands cheek to cheek with a unicorn, one hand raised to its muzzle and the horn rising between them. Flowers grow at their feet and slender trees close in behind.

336 areas. The unicorn's mane and the princess's hair both fall in long wavy strands and they meet in the middle of the composition — that junction is the one place where the two figures can merge if they share a colour.

Leave the unicorn white and put the colour in its mane, which is the standard reading and the reason the drawing works: a white animal against a coloured gown. Rose or lilac mane, a gown in something deeper, and a butter-gold horn.
