Swallowtail Butterfly in Flight coloring page

Detailed swallowtail with long tail streamers gliding in mid-air. It is drawn as clean black outlines on white and centred on an A4 page with a 12 mm margin, so your printer will not clip an edge.

The line work is intricate, so fine-tip pens or sharp coloured pencils get the most out of it. Colouring it in here splits the drawing into 341 separate areas — click the bucket into any of them, or switch to the brush for shading that has no outline of its own.

A closer look at Swallowtail Butterfly in Flight

A swallowtail in flight, wings angled rather than laid flat, with the long tails trailing off the hindwings and a scalloped, spotted edge running round the outside. The page is left mostly white around it.

341 areas, concentrated in the row of edge spots. Those spots are what make it a swallowtail, so they are the one place worth slowing down — filling them all in the same tone as the wing throws away the sheet's best feature.

Butter-yellow panels with charcoal banding and a band of ocean blue along the hindwing is the real insect and hard to improve on. With so much white page, a light wash of sky behind the butterfly is what finishes the sheet.

Print it at 100% rather than “Fit to page” — the 12 mm margin is already in the PDF. The printing guide covers paper weight, ink and the print-dialog settings that matter.

Colour Swallowtail Butterfly in Flight in your browser

Pick a colour, then click inside any outlined area to flood it. The brush and eraser handle the parts that have no outline, and Undo goes back as far as you like. Everything happens on your device — the sheet is never uploaded, and your progress is remembered here so you can come back and finish.

On a phone or tablet, open Swallowtail Butterfly in Flight in the studio — the same canvas with the page around it cleared away, so the sheet fills the screen. Your colours carry over either way.
