A closer look at Lotus Blossom on Water
A single lotus opens above the water on a straight stem, its pointed petals drawn in two tiers around a seed pod. Three lily pads float around it with their radial veins marked, and two ripple lines run across the water behind.
45 areas and by far the simplest flower sheet here — the whole composition is one flower, three pads and two ripples. That emptiness is the subject, so the work is in shading rather than filling: the petals shade well from tip to base.
Blush or rose at the petal tips fading to cream at the base, a butter seed pod, and lily pads in two greens. Leaving the water white is the calmer option; a pale ocean wash with the ripples left white is the prettier one.
