A closer look at Celestial Crescent Mandala
A crescent moon lies on its back at the centre, cradling a cluster of six-pointed stars, and the crescent itself is set into a henna-style medallion of teardrops and petals. A fringe of pendant drops hangs from the lower edge like jewellery.
765 areas. The pendant fringe along the bottom is the part that makes this one look like ornament rather than geometry, and it is also the finest work — a string of tiny beads and drops. The crescent's interior is the one large open shape and is worth saving for a wash.
This is the mandala to do in a single colour at different strengths. Indigo deepening from the outer ring to the centre, with the stars and the crescent's face left as white paper, gives a night-sky effect that no amount of variety would match.
