A closer look at Cosmic Starburst Mandala
An eight-point compass star with long and short alternating points sits at the centre of an oval field, with four smaller compass roses set at the corners and small stars and dots scattered through the space between.
637 areas. The compass points are long, straight and meet at sharp angles, which is unforgiving for markers but excellent for pencils — the points are exactly the shape that shows a gradient from base to tip. The corner roses repeat the centre in miniature.
Alternate the long and short points in two tones and the star will appear to rotate. A deep navy field behind it with the points left white or gold gives a nautical chart look, which is the reading this particular drawing supports better than a floral palette would.
