A closer look at Kaleidoscope Dream Mandala
A layered flower medallion that runs right off all four edges of the page with no margin at all, tier after tier of long pointed petals overlapping outward from a small rosette at the centre.
767 areas. The bleed to the edges is what separates this from the other mandalas here — there is no border to work towards and the pattern is cropped, which means the outermost petals are incomplete and need the same treatment as their whole neighbours.
A kaleidoscope has mirror lines, so colour along them: pick four colours and rotate them through each tier so the same colour always lands in the same position on every arm. Done consistently it produces the optical spin the drawing is named for.
