A closer look at Radiant Sun Mandala
A sun disc of tightly packed geometric bands sits at the centre with long straight rays of alternating lengths shooting out past it to the corners of the page. A small eight-point star medallion sits in each of the four corners.
1,799 areas and the most demanding mandala here by some distance. The rays are long, narrow triangles and there are well over a hundred — colouring them individually is a genuine time sink, whereas alternating just two tones round the whole sun is quick and looks better.
Grade it outward: chestnut and deep amber in the dense central bands, warming to butter at the ray tips, so the sun appears to emit light. The four corner stars in a single contrasting tone stop the composition from being one circle on an empty page.
